Licensing

Aurora Sector Studio is proprietary software. Use is only permitted under an explicit licence agreement granted by the author. Licences may be granted, revoked or modified at the sole discretion of the author, in accordance with the licence terms distributed with the software.

Licence models

Aurora Sector Studio is available under two licence models. Both provide full access to all features. The primary difference is whether the software is used by an individual or by a division/FIR team responsible for official sector file work.

End-user licence

For individual users who maintain sector files, develop FIR structures or work on personal/independent sector file projects.

  • Intended for: individual users.
  • Installations: typically one machine per licence (unless agreed otherwise).
  • Typical use: personal FIR work, independent projects or private sector development.
  • Term: open-ended, as long as the licence terms are respected.

End-user licences are non-transferable without explicit approval. They may be revoked or require renewal if the usage no longer matches the agreed scope or licence terms.

Division licence

For divisions, sub-divisions or FIR staff teams responsible for official sector file development, maintenance and internal training projects on the Aurora ATC client.

  • Intended for: division/FIR teams and their authorised staff.
  • Installations: multiple machines within the same division/FIR, as agreed.
  • Typical use: official sector file creation, updating, validation and test/training setups.
  • Term: granted under a division-level agreement, subject to review or renewal.

Divisions are responsible for ensuring Aurora Sector Studio is used only within the agreed scope and by authorised personnel. Scope (machine count, roles, environments) is defined as part of the agreement.

Licence Type Intended For Installations Typical Use Term Notes
End-user licence Individual users working with sector files, FIR structure or personal-sector projects. Typically one installation per licence, unless a different scope is agreed. Personal FIR work, independent development, or private sector file maintenance in compliance with the licence terms. Open-ended, as long as the licence terms are respected. Non-transferable without explicit approval. May be revoked or require renewal depending on usage and compliance.
Division licence Divisions, sub-divisions or FIR staff teams responsible for official sector file development and maintenance. Multiple installations within the same division/FIR. Exact scope (machine count, roles) is agreed individually. Official sector file creation, updating, validation and internal training projects. Suitable for collaborative workflows and multi-user environments. Granted under a division-level agreement and may include renewal, review or scope adjustments over time. Divisions are responsible for ensuring the software is used only within the agreed scope and by authorised personnel.

Trial period

All installations of Aurora Sector Studio include a 7-day trial period starting from the first launch on a given machine. During the trial:

  • All features are fully enabled with no restrictions.
  • The software behaves exactly as it does for licensed users.
  • No licence key is required during the trial period.

After the trial expires, the software enters a locked state until a valid licence is activated. No project files or settings are lost.

Machine ID and activation

Licences are bound to a specific machine using a Machine ID. You can find your Machine ID inside Aurora Sector Studio under: Help → License Information → Copy Machine ID.

When requesting a licence, you will normally be asked to provide this Machine ID. The same Machine ID is used when validating or activating the licence through the website. See the Machine ID guide for more details.
